A Materik PureCase for iPhone 17 Pro and one for iPhone 18 Pro side by side, the same size

Will Your iPhone 17 Pro Case Fit the iPhone 18 Pro?

Every September the same question comes back: the new iPhone is here, do I have to replace my case too? This year the answer is unusually clear, and it is good news.

What Apple actually published

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max carry over the exact external measurements of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. From Apple's own specifications:

  • iPhone 18 Pro: 150.0 x 71.9 x 8.75 mm, the same as iPhone 17 Pro.
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max: 163.4 x 78.0 x 8.75 mm, the same as iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Height, width and thickness match to the tenth of a millimeter. The only figure that moved is weight: the 18 Pro is 211 grams against 206, and the 18 Pro Max is 249 grams against 233. A few grams do not change how a case sits.

One honest caveat, because you will not read it on most accessory sites: identical dimensions are a very strong signal, not a promise. Apple has not issued a case compatibility statement between the two generations, and its own case listings stay tied to one model. So a brand telling you its case fits both should be telling you because it designed it that way, not because it read a spec sheet.

The three places a case gives itself away

Matching body dimensions settle most of the question. What they do not settle is the opening around the cameras, which is where a case binds if it is going to bind at all. Apple has never published measurements for the camera plateau, on either generation, so this is the one part a brand has to answer for its own case instead of reading it off a spec sheet.

  • The camera opening. The frame around the lenses has to clear the plateau completely, with no material resting on the glass and nothing clipping the ultra wide lens or the flash.
  • The buttons. Side buttons, the Action button and Camera Control should press cleanly. If a press feels stiff or vague, the case is fighting the phone.
  • MagSafe alignment. Magnets need to sit centered. A charger that slides off center or a wallet that creeps is an alignment problem, not a magnet strength problem.

The sixty second fit test

If you are reusing a case from last year, this takes less than a minute and settles it:

  1. Corners. The phone should drop into all four corners on its own, with no pushing and no gap.
  2. Buttons. Press each one. They should click, not resist.
  3. Lenses. Put the phone face up on a flat table. The lenses should not touch the surface.
  4. Charging. Plug in the cable and set a MagSafe charger on the back. The cable should go in straight, the charger should snap to center.

If any of the four fails, the case is not doing its job any more, no matter how well it fit last year.

One case, two generations

This is the part we designed on purpose. The Materik PureCase and the Materik CrystalCase fit iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Not as a stretch, and not as a workaround: the fit was drawn around both generations from the start, which is why the same sentence appears on every product page.

What that means in practice. The camera opening is cut to clear the plateau on both, so nothing rests on the lenses. The side buttons stay covered and keep their travel. The magnets are integrated for full MagSafe compatibility, centered, so a charger or a wallet lands where it should. On the CrystalCase, the Camera Control button is built into the case in liquid silicone with an aluminum alloy frame and a tempered glass top, so your touch stays precise straight through it.

So if you are upgrading this year, your Materik case comes with you. And if you are staying on the 17 Pro for another year, a case made for the 18 Pro is still made for your phone.
